Canon 20 Digital camera & Ikelite watertight case for diving
Scuba diving is a fantastic and freeing sport. We enjoy
exploring this underwater mystery & final frontier along with
the ability to share what we see underwater with you using our
underwater photo abilities.
While diving, The Mad Dogs use an Ikelite (not Ikelight)
watertight housing to keep our Canon 20D digital camera dry.
Ikelite housings are designed to keep the camera absolutely dry
(a very important factor to making underwater photos…) while
giving access to every button, knob and control on the camera.
In our opinion, although the Ikelite housing is an expensive
option, being designed to operate safely at depths up to 200
feet (60 m) and perform the task perfectly makes it a worthwhile
investment.
Ikelite housings are designed to use interchangeable “ports”.
Using optically clear, robust polycarbonate plastic, each
interchangeable port is custom designed to accommodate specific
lenses while allowing access to all control, zoom and focusing
elements on the lens. In the future, as we upgrade to more macro
& wide-angle lenses for our underwater photography, we have the
option to add additional interchangeable ports to accommodate
these lenses.
Like the port, the housing is sealed using fail-safe “O-rings”.
Unlike some of the competitive housings, the Mad Dogs like the
simplicity of design and use of the “O-ring” seal of the
Ikelite. Not fitted and stuffed into a groove, the O-ring is
visible from the outside of the housing so we are reassured that
the O-ring is doing its job keeping the Canon camera dry.
The heavy duty thick wall housing is molded of corrosion free
clear polycarbonate. The Release Handle system allows easy
attachment and removal of SubStrobe (external lights) mounting
arms at the touch of a button. Two removable screws allow the
handle and tray assembly to be removed for traveling or storage.
The size and weight of the Ikelite housing provides neutral
buoyancy and superb handling underwater – a must for an
enjoyable scuba diving trip. Camera installation is quick and
simple. The Quad-Ring sealed controls are conveniently placed at
our fingertips, giving us access to almost every control on the
Canon camera. Ikelite’s pioneering Quad-Ring seal glands ensure
that the controls are smooth to use while ensuring that they are
watertight.
The Ikelite Super-Eye magnifier was provided with the housing
and both enlarges and enhances the ability to view images
through the Canon’s camera eyepiece while wearing our diving
masks.
Whether you call it Ikelite or Ikelight, the Mad Dogs know that
we have 100% trust and faith in our Ikelite housing keeping our
Canon camera safe, dry and protected from the underwater
environment.
